Learning Objectives:

  1. Compare and contrast the degree of variability in the everyday functioning of poison center specialists.
  2. Review how poison centers identify population specific needs and how this is addressed.
  3. Discuss how individual poison centers have optimized management of toxicological situations for promotion of patient health.
  4. Describe challenges for poison centers in the management of acetominophen overdose in the remote setting or in the setting where lab values are not available in a timely manner.
  5. Describe challenges for poison centers in the management of toxic alcohol exposure in the remote setting or in the setting where lab values are not available in a timely manner.
  6. Review the impact inaccessibility to other modalities for diagnosis and treatment of acetaminophen overdose and toxic alcohol exposure has on definitive care.
